Autumn Term (Term 1 & 2) Witney Weavers

This project teaches children about the local history of the Witney blanket trade. The children will learn about the cottage industry and its development to factories and mills during the industrial revolution, as well as exploring the role of Charles Early in expanding Witney blankets as a global brand.
| Maths |
Year 6 will cover place value, the four operations, fractions (including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing), and converting units across the autumn term using White Rose Maths. |
| Reading | The Next Steps, Murder at Snowfall |
| Writing | Year 6 will focus this term on narrative writing, non‑chronological reports, instructions, recounts and persuasive writing. |
| Memorable Experience | Year 6 will take part in the Witney Blanket Trail, exploring the town’s blanket‑making heritage through a hands‑on walk that connects local history, community stories and real places in Witney. |
| History | This project teaches children about the local history of the Witney blanket trade. | Science | Circulatory System: This project teaches children about the transport role of the human circulatory system, its main parts and primary functions. They learn about healthy lifestyle choices and the effects of unhealthy choices on the body. |
| Design and Technology | Food For Life: This project teaches children about processed food and healthy food choices. They make bread and pasta sauces and learn about the benefits of whole foods. They plan and make meals as part of a healthy daily menu, and evaluate their completed products. |
| Art | Let's Get Weaving: The children will study a local artist and take inspiration from them in learning to weave using a loom. |
